Getting to Harwich Almost everyone knows the time-tested automobile paths onto the Cape. Once folks experience the easier Friday turnover, they never want to go back to the Saturday madness. The following links are to some lesser known (and scenic) alternatives. There are enough independent taxis on the Cape to make a run from Hyannis or Wood's Hole economical. (Hyannis Ferry Terminal to Harwich $45 one-way)
Boston Logan Int'l Airport (BOS) Distance from Harwich (87 mi 2h)
Provincetown Ferry Terminal (Macmillan Wharf) Distance from Harwich: (32 mi 55 min $75 cab) Fast Ferry Boston-Provincetown Boston World Trade Center to Provincetown Center
Plymouth-Brockton Street Railway (PBSR) High-end Buses (or coaches as the Europeans call them) with clean, comfortable seats. Service from Logan Airport (BOS), Park Square (Back Bay-Boston), Boston South Station Transportation Center, or several South Shore locations. Nice clean commuter buses. ($22 one-way; $40 round trip) to Barnstable (frequently) (13 mi 24 min) and Harwich (two buses each day) Distance from Harwich: Harwich Bus stop: Park/Ride Lot, Rt. 6 & 124, Harwich, MA 02645 (2.5 mi 6 min) Barnstable Bus Stop: Park/Ride Lot, Rt.6 & 132 (13 mi 24 min $35 cab)
Car Rental A one-way rental from Boston to Hyannis Airport and/or back is a nice economical alternative if you can work out the logistics. We have found these one-way (one day) car rentals (4 door, Mid-Size) between $40 and $50. (Contrast this with $140+ for a cab/limo ride to BOS with a big family and luggage) 3 or 4 of the economical rental agencies are in the main terminal at Hyannis (on the Hyannis Circle). We had luck with web reservations but it might help to call the local desks also. The one-way rental has proven to be a nice way to make a clean getaway at the end of vacation. You will need a ride to Hyannis to pick up the car the night before or morning of departure,
LimoLiner (Midtown Manhattan to Boston) LimoLiner is becoming the preferred choice of travel between New York and Boston. About four hours (non-stop) with a Business Class experience. $79 each way.
Consider a connection to the Provincetown Ferry or the Plymouth-Brockton Street Railway (above)
